What the Fungi ?!
rare bioluminescent fungi spotted
Foxfire or Faerie Fire is the bioluminescence created by some species of fungi present in decaying wood.

After a hard day's work moving dirt and gravel on the adjoining twenty acres recently purchased by family, a discovery was made. As our brother Colin was tending a stump fire, he uncovered what appeared at first to be a glow stick. Upon further investigation, an entire log in the undergrowth was covered in this bioluminescent fungi. Thanks to the internet we learned it is called Foxfire or Fairy Fire. Have you ever come across this wonder of nature?
Say hello (and goodbye) to our little friends!
We've been enjoying these fine feathered friends ever since they arrived in May. However now that they've nested, reared young and enjoyed the fine dining of the forest, they are getting ready to high-tail it out of here in August. Each are among our favorites due to their unique behavior and characteristics.

Phoebes are our annual tenants, who prefer man-made structures in which to make their homes.

Berries gone wild!
Wild blueberries, strawberries blackberries, raspberries, dewberries, huckleberries, black cherries, elderberries... Oh my! Due to the warm and wet summer of 2018, we've seen a bumper crop of berries, mostly in August.
The only problem, is, "You snooze, you lose." the birds, deer and other furry friends get to most of this nature-candy before you even notice it. The key is timing and diligence...There's enough for everyone!
